The translation of the App Toolkit's own interface to german is horrible
Maybe this is the preview only, but the translation of the App Toolkit's own user interface elements to german are obviously machine-generated and just horrible. This is not a good "business card" for an internationalization toolkit.
We are using both recycling and machine translation to manage UI elements in the pre-release version.
Yes, for example "State" was wrong translated to "Staat".
In this context the German word is "Status". Not a 'country' ;-)
I have noted the specific example and corrected it. I am investigating alternate translation source in hopes to improve the overall translation quality.
As a workaround, the editor has a command like option to override the default language. The argument is '/lang' followed by the BCP-47 code.
For example, to force English, use the following
MultilingualEditor /lang en-US
I fully agree with the feedback! In fact I had to delete the de-DE folder for the german UI to make the UI understandable (I speak german natively).
The most translations are simply wrong. Please do NOT publish unreviewed UI translations as it requires users to back-translate to english to understand what the original meaning was. This makes using the tool harder to use than having english UI since most developers or translators can fall back to english quite easily. It does not make sense to put in such faulty translations.
One example ist the translation of "state" which is translated in the UI to "Staat". "Staat" in german means "Country" like e.g. state of California. I understand that recycling UI elements might resolve to that translation but it should be definitely reviewed before being published because the context does not match at all.
