1. Prevent MAT from re-writing all XLF files on every build when nothing changed

After adding MAT, my C# app project is being rebuilt every time, even if nothing has changed. This is super annoying and makes debugging really slow. I want to be able to hit F5, and the app should come up immediately, if it has already been deployed and nothing has changed.

Currenlty, MAT seems to re-write all XLF files during each build, even if nothing has changed in the resources. Now next time I hit "F5", VS sees that the XLF files have changed and will trigger a rebuild of the project. During that rebuild, the XLF files are re-written…

2. Does MAT support .NET core 3?

Does MAT support .NET core 3?
If not, is there any plan/release to support?

Thanks

3. Have the translate feature handle placeholders

If your RSX string contains a placeholder, the translation service treats the placeholder as a literal and the translation is wrong. For example, use the following string

"You have already shared these students with {0}!"

When MAT translates it to French, ir comes back with

"Vous avez déjà partagé ces étudiants avec 0 euros !"

The correct translation would have been

"Vous avez déjà partagé ces étudiants avec {0}!"

Ideally, Cognitive service should handle this correctly, but since it doesn't, MAT should handle it.

4. Support Visual Basic SDK-style projects

It's not possible to enable the MAT for Visual Basic projects that are created in the new SDK style. The option in the menu to enable the MAT are simply disabled.

Since the project type GUID of Visual Basic SDK projects is a different one than the type GUID of C# SDK projects, my guess it that the GUID for Visual Basic SDK projects is simply missing in the list.

5. Ability to dock tabs in different locations

This is a UI suggestion.

Have the ability to dock in two locations so you could have strings tab and the suggestions tab one above the other so you can more easily see if you missed a source while going threw resource IDs.

6. MSBuild - Multilingual App Toolkit independency build

I have a Visual Studio 2017 project enabled Multilingual. Use VisualStudio, MultilingualAppToolkit target build successfully and see that in project file has MSBuild target as below:

<ItemGroup>
<XliffResource Include="MultilingualResources\project_name.ja-JP.xlf"></XliffResource>
</ItemGroup>

<Target Name="MATPrerequisite" BeforeTargets="PrepareForBuild" Condition="!Exists('$(MSBuildExtensionsPath)\Microsoft\Multilingual App Toolkit\Microsoft.Multilingual.ResxResources.targets')" Label="MultilingualAppToolkit">
<Warning Text="$(MSBuildProjectFile) is Multilingual build enabled, but the Multilingual App Toolkit is unavailable during the build. If building with Visual Studio, please check to ensure that toolkit is properly installed." />
</Target>

How can I create a MSBuild config file (*.xml) to build Multilingual independently to get target language resource files?

Regards,
Jason

7. MSBuild - Multilingual App Toolkit is unavailable during the build

I have a Visual Studio 2017 project enabled Multilingual
1. Use VisualStudio, MultilingualAppToolkit target build successfully.
2. Use MSBuild to build the same project, it show below warning
"... is Multilingual build enabled, but the Multilingual App Toolkit is unavailable during the build. If building with Visual Studio, please check to ensure that toolkit is properly installed."

What's problem and is there anyway to fix this?

Regards,
Jason

8. Fix build breaks and improve perf in multi-targeting projects

When a .NET SDK style msbuild project sets its TargetFrameworks property instead of merely TargetFramework, it builds multiple times. When the resx files need to be updated, each of these target frameworks (that build in parallel) often end up crashing the build because each one runs MAT which tries to rewrite the same files and collides with file locks.

Instead, MAT should only do its work in the cross-targeting build (before the individual target frameworks build). This will reduce its perf impact on the build and avoid such breaks.

9. Provide MAT as NuGet package

MAT should be available as NuGet package. It could provide its own .targets file to process the xlf files. The .NET Core 2.0 runtime (and its bundled msbuild) should be a good foundation for a port of MAT that also runs under Linux/MacOS.

10. Add pseudo locale translations for mirrored (qps-plocm) and east-asian (qps-ploca).

In the Windows 10 Region & language settings I can add three pseudo loc languages English (qps-ploc), Arabic (qps-plocm), and Japanese (qps-ploca). However, using the Multilingual App Toolkit I can only only add and translate qps-ploc. I would like the Multilingual App Toolkit to support all OS pseudo languages for complete localization testability.

11. error introduced by version MAT v4.x in converting resx files

The previous version v3.1 was able to process values starting with "<value><?xml version="1.0" ...". The actual Versions v4.x can not process These values anymore.
I can not upgrade my projects from MAT v3.1 to MAT v4.x when this obvious error is not corrected.
The suggestion "fix convert problem '?xml' with embedded xml structure in resx file" addresses this newly introduced error.

12. Persist Filter Strings in a Drop-Down List

If you used a keyword string to filter a list, chances are you'll use that keyword again. As I go back and forth to deal with one particular row, I find myself retyping the same keyword to locate that row. If the filer strings are saved to drop-down list (like the search keyword in Visual Studio) then it would be a matter of just picking the keyword and hit the filter button. Simple concept but saves time.

13. Create a separate install for the Multilingual Editor

The Multilingual App Toolkit uses two separate install models – MSI for VS 2015 / VS 2013 and VSIX for VS 2017. This creates an issue when installing only VS 2017 as the editor is not included in the VSIX.

To solve this, and to make install easier for non-developers, the editor should be separated into a separate install. Doing so will create a single process for installing the toolkit via the 'Tools -> Extensions and Updates' menu (Works for VS 2017, VS 2015, VS 2013) then install the Editor using a separate MSI.

Of course to avoid confusion with…

15. Implement a counter for the number of translations MAT has requested

At the end of June we had to sign up for azure translation services in order to continue using MAT. In July and August we spend $200 on those service just using MAT. We need to know when a translation is requested and control when not to translate. We are happy to pay for these services but knowing how much we spend is required by our company. Hence a counter to know how many translations have been done.

16. Fix xlf files appearing as changes when switching branches in team explorer

When switching branches in team explorer it suddenly occurs that xlf files appear under changes and further branch switching is prohibited (unless you stage, commit or undo first).

It seems, that the preparing the solution after a branch switch is somehow regenerating the xlf files. This is just annoying since there actually are no changes.

17. Fix the download links

From the official download page:

https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/develop/multilingual-app-toolkit

You get v4.0.1795.0

According to this article:

https://multilingualapptoolkit.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/1167898-microsoft-translator-moves-to-the-azure-portal

One needs at least MAT v4.0.1810

Where can we download this one if not from the official page? Bing isn't very helpful either.

20. Support extensions for custom formats

Please add extension points to allow integration of custom formats in projects, such as application specific text resources (e.g. WiX Toolset localizations, or any other custom text resources) in Visual Studio.
